Biography

A passion for art and history lead me to complete a degree in Museum and Gallery Studies in 2014. Since then, I have continued to incorporate these interests into my work. Beginning my career at Highclere Castle (aka Downton Abbey) where I stayed for over 7 years, I have a wealth of experience in public opening and events at historic houses. I always say, as you spend so much time at work it might as well be spent in beautiful places!

I began my role at Shaw House, an Elizabethan mansion in Berkshire, in 2019 and have since written the first guide book and introduced audio guides, as well as running the largest events including the Summer Fair and a costume exhibition. In addition to my role, I present illustrated talks and have been a guest on podcasts such as Talking Tudors and The Tudor Travel Guide. I am extremely passionate about history houses and enjoy sharing their stories in my talks.

Talks

The Elizabethan mansion at Shaw has many fascinating stories to tell. Built from the profits of the cloth trade in 1581, it has since enjoyed visits from royalty, including Elizabeth I and Charles I, as well as being the setting for Civil War battles and accommodation for soldiers during World Wars. Later, Shaw House became a school for local pupils. In the 21st century, following over £6 million of conservation and restoration, the House is a visitor attraction and business and conference centre. Many of its secrets were not revealed until restoration, and it is my pleasure to share them with you now.

From pouring champagne and leading guided tours to catching escapee sheep and finding buckets for water leaks… working in heritage means there’s never a dull moment!

With over 10 years of experience working in historic houses, it is my pleasure to share the fascinating history and intriguing day to day stories of iconic houses including Highclere Castle, also known as Downton Abbey, as well as Shaw House in Newbury.
