The Association holds two files of personal data:
(1) MEMBERS. The names, postal addresses, e-mail addresses and telephone numbers of individual members, institutional members, and the local societies affiliated to it, are held on a computer database.
The database is held and managed by the Membership Secretary. Other members of the Executive Committee who send out communications also have access. Apart from them, the data is not disclosed to anyone.
The information is held so that members can be informed about the activities of the Association and other societies with an interest in local history, can receive its publications, and may occasionally be asked to help, thanked for their help, or asked permission to use their written texts or images.
Members may check their data, and have it altered or removed at any time by applying to the Membership Secretary. If members fail to renew their subscriptions, their data is removed from the database after two years from when the subscription was due.
Details of Member Societies’ contacts will be published on the website but only with the individual’s consent. If the details are incorrect or require removal please contact the webdesigner@blha.org.uk or the membership secretary.
(2) E-MAIL BULLETIN RECIPIENTS. The Association also holds an e-mail bulletin database, containing the e-mail addresses only of non-members who have expressed a wish to receive e-mail bulletins from the Association.
The non-members’ database is held and managed by the Web Designer, and no-one else has access to it. The data is not disclosed to anyone else.
The information is used to send out occasional bulletins with information and news of opportunities and events likely to be of interest to local historians.
Subscribers to the non-members’ e-mail bulletins may have their e-mail addresses altered or removed at any time by applying to the Web Designer.
