Judith
Hunter Prize
Judith Hunter was one of the prime movers in the re-formation
of BLHA. She edited the journal, Berkshire Old and New, for many years.
Following her death the committee agreed
to make an award each year to the author of the best article
published in the Journal in order to commemorate the work that Judith had
carried out for local history.
Judith
was a noted local historian, having published several books on
Berkshire subjects. She was awarded a PhD from Reading University for her
thesis on Berkshire public houses and inns.
She was awarded an MBE for
her work as honorary curator of the Windsor collection.

Dick Barnes receives the Judith Hunter prize from Judith's husband Rip
Hunter for the best article in the 2006
edition of Berkshire Old and New for his work entitled
'Fitzharris Manor, Abingdon: from gentleman's residence to demolition'
Thursday 11th January 2007 at the Museum of English Rural Life.
