Ascot 'Posts'

Postby polypody » Fri Mar 04, 2011 6:58 pm

Whilst out walking the footpath that runs just south of the Old New Mile Course at Ascot, from Winkfield Road to Cheapside Road, I noticed a few, what best can be described as Pillars, seemingly solid & constructed of concrete, about 20' high. They were standing on square bases at regular intervals on the north side of the footpath. Obviously constructed some years ago they seem to serve no purpose nowadays so I was wondering if anyone has any idea what there purpose was. On an OS Map of 1912 there are marked three Posts but they are located to the north of the course.
