Prizefighting

Postby danny » Mon Jan 25, 2010 5:29 pm

I am researching the history of bareknuckle prizefighting in and around Berkshire in the 18th & 19th centuries. Many fights were held in the Hungerford, Newbury/Thatcham, Wargrave/Twyford, Henley/Maidenhead and Bracknell, Windsor areas. I have exhausted the information in the Reading Mercury and Chronicle papers of the periodin Reading Library, which has been very helpful and wonder if anyone has any extra information from these areas from other local papers etc of that period.

Hello Danny. Have you ever spotted the cottage in the centre of Benson on Thames village that is called `Tom Sayers Cottage` and even has a caricature of a pugilist on the front of the cottage? Hope it helps....Tom HINE.
