This area has a very regular appearance, as if it had been deliberately laid out. Is it a planned suburb?

Northbrook Street was deliberately laid out in burgess plots but it is not known exactly when (probably late middle ages as Newbury grew into a major cloth making centre). In Tudor records it is fairly well established but is evidently an extension to the Bourough of Newbury which grew initially to the south of the Kennet.
