Newsletter

The Newsletter, a substantial illustrated booklet, is published three times a year.  It contains short articles, and lists lectures, exhibitions, courses, workshops, day schools and visits.  It has news about individual members, and news from local history societies, libraries, museums, and the Berkshire Record Office, and it carries reviews of new publications.

Journal

Berkshire Old and New is published annually, and contains well-researched articles on Berkshire History, and the Berkshire Bibliography, which lists new publications received by libraries in the county over the past year.

Awards and Prizes

The Association holds funds from which it can grant awards and prizes, with the purpose of helping and encouraging local history research and publication.

Events

For a full listing of events organised by the BLHA and its member societies, see the Diary Dates.  These lectures, workshops, day schools and visits provide the opportunity to hear acknowledged experts in their fields, to meet local historians from across the county, and to visit libraries, museums and archives, sometimes parts of them to which the general public does not have access.

Annual General Meeting

The AGM is held in the spring, and is normally hosted by one of the member societies.  Every effort is made to take the meeting to a different place each year, visiting all parts of the Royal County.  The business section is relatively short, as this is also a social occasion: member societies are invited to set up stalls and to sell their publications, and after the formal meeting, there is a presidential address, followed by refreshments and presentations from the host society, sometimes including a local history talk.
