Have you ever wondered what’s kept in an historic archive, how you would gain access for private research, or how they might help with local or family history studies? Well, now’s your chance to find out, and plan an enjoyable day out too!
The Berkshire Local History Association has organised another programme of visits to local archives between late Spring and early Summer 2012, including a repeat of the very successful visit to Eton College.
Dr David Lewis will be your guide for this visit and he will show you its chapel which contains some of the country’s finest surviving fifteenth century wall paintings.
A visit to Sandhurst Royal Military Academy, in the year of its 200th anniversary, is a rare opportunity to see one of the counties lesser known archives.
A visit to the Museum of English Rural Life (MERL) incorporates not just the archive, but museum and a chance to see their current exhibitions and displays.
At Douai Abbey you will be introduced to the extensive archive, now housed in the new library and there will also be afternoon tea.
This form will be available to download from our website and the full programme will be noted in Newsletter 102, but numbers are limited so places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
We will send details of where to meet for each visit once the tickets are allocated, but sorry, we cannot provide a refund if you are unable to attend on the day, or cancel.
If you would like to join us on these visits, please download the application form and return it with a cheque made payable to The Berkshire Local History Association together with a stamped, addressed envelope to:
